Move your body !
When talking about losing weight through physical activity, most of people think cardio will do the job. It’s much more complex than just doing a 30 min stroll, even if you do it every day. In fact, cardio training will help burn calories, because your muscles need energy and use glucose and fats to make it (this way you can move your body !).
The point is, cardio training has an impact while you do it. So if you do it for 30 minutes, it impacts your metabolism (and energy expenditure) for the moment you exercise.
On the opposite side, muscular training do not burn lots of calories while you do it. It can’t because its an anaerobic exercize: it doesn’t sollicitate much of your cardio capacities. But there is an important thing that muscular training does : it keeps your metabolism high even an hour after your training is done. Cardio training doesn’t do that.
This last point is very interesting. Therefore you must combine the muscle and cardiovascular training. If you do a cardio training, you can expect to burn 250-500 calories depending on the duration and intensity of your workout. After your workout, your metabolism will quickly return to its normal level. If you add a 30 min of muscular training, your metabolism will stay higher for a while, even if you’re back at your computer, working on your boss’s last request.
I explained you earlier how metabolism works. I told you that when you are sleeping or doing almost nothing, your metabolism rate is very low, so you don’t expend much calories. When you move your body, your metabolism burns more calories. I tried several ways to improve the combination of cardiovascular and muscular training (and boost my metabolism!).
